Hola! This is a new blog that I’ve created to talk about using technology in the classroom specifically, the foreign language classroom. My name is Rodrigo Encina and I currently teach 7th and 8th graders Spanish in New York State. This is my first year at Sodus Central School District and am looking forward to getting to know all my new students. This is only my fifth year teaching and I’m trying to incorporate technology into my classroom…Help!

  1. As I reflect on my learning throughout this course and how it will affect my growing technological abilities, I feel that this course will definitely change the way I plan and teach. As my knowledge of how to effectively integrate technology in my classroom increases, so will my ability to keep students engaged in a way of learning that they will enjoy, and that is relevant to their future.
This course has helped me to develop my own technology skills by allowing me to experiment with new ways of presenting information by the use of wikis, podcasts, and blogs. Not only are these web 2.0 methods for me to present information, but I can also have my students use these to present their work and learn to master the use of these programs.
This course has also enlightened me to how students learn and how to keep them engaged. It’s difficult to accept the fact that some of our students are more technologically savvy than most of us but, that is something we need to take advantage of and not be intimidated by. This encourages me to continue learning about ways to integrate technology into my classroom and to continue learning about new technology that I can use.
One of my goals for the upcoming years is to try my best to use technology in my classroom even though my school district does not offer me many ways to do this. Since the start of this course I have submitted two proposals for technology equipment to my school and it looks like they are responding very positively to my requests. I will be receiving a projector soon and I’m still waiting to hear about a SMART board. My second goal is to reform my classroom from teacher centered learning to student centered learning. I intend on having my student do more hands on activities using technology as soon as it is made available for me to do so.
